Tsunami Relief - What we are doing
Hello everyone,
We wanted to let you know what the Mission Committee is doing in regards to the Tsunami Relief effort.
We have initially sent $2000 from our Mission budget plus $3270 collected in the offering on Sunday 1/2/05.
We have received several emails from NCP.  Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is working closely with Church World Service (the organization that sponsors Crop Walk). CWS has sent their entire supply of "Gift of the Heart" Health Kits - close to 100,000 I believe - out to the field.  They need more to send out and to replenish their supply.  NCP has set a goal of 2500 Health Kits from area Presbyterian churches.

Health Kits contain
1 Hand Towel
1 Washcloth
1 Comb
1 Metal nail file or nail clipper
1 Bar of soap (bath size)
1 Toothbrush
1 Tube of toothpaste (4-7oz.)
6 Band-aids
All sealed in a gallon size plastic bag with a zipper closure

We have allocated $500 for an initial batch of supplies.  Nancy Noerpel and Sue Werling are going to CostCo to buy the supplies this week. Brian Sullivan is working with Jim Wiley to find toothbrushes and toothpaste.  Barbara Jarvis is getting nail files and combs from Sally's Beauty supply.
We will be assembling our first kits this Sunday 1/9/05 after the service and would like to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to help.

We would like to set a goal of 150 kits from St. Andrew, but $500 will only get us part of the way.  We will be asking for individuals to either build a kit or make a contribution to buy the supplies for a kit.

If anyone has an idea of where we can get any of these materials at cost or donated, it would be a great help.
Also, if anyone has suggestions of other ways to help please share.

Peace,
Sam & Brian
