SERVICE FOR THE WORSHIP OF GOD

6th Sunday in Ordinary Time February 15, 2004

DRAWN INTO GOD'S PRESENCE

Prayer of Preparation

Grant unto us, O God, the fullness of your promise.  Where we have been weak, grant us your strength; where we have been confused, grant us your guidance; where we have been distraught grant us your comfort; where we have been dead, grant us your life.  Apart from you, O Lord, we are nothing, in and with you we can do all things.

Welcome and Chiming of the Hour

Prelude                     "Festive Trumpet Tune"       David German

« Call to Worship

Leader: Happy are they who have not walked in the counsel of the wicked.

People: Nor lingered in the way of sinners,

nor sat in the seats of the scornful.

Leader: Their delight is in the law of the LORD

and on this law they meditate day and night.

ALL:      They are like trees planted by streams of water,

bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that

do not wither; everything they do shall prosper.

î Hymn # 462 "Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies"       Ratisbon

« Prayer of Confession

Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo.  Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment.  Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image; through Jesus Christ, the light of the world.

« Assurance of Pardon

Leader: As far as the east is from the west, so far has the Lord removed our transgressions from us.  In Jesus Christ we have the promise that if we die with him, we shall live with him; we shall be made new and become the children of God.  Believe the good news of the Gospel, in Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

ALL;  Hallelujah and Amen
