Mission – serving our community

GOAL FOR August 2022:  200 pounds of contributions!
Help fill the Loudoun Hunger Relief Box!
With the rising food prices, LHR needs our help as much as ever!
In April and May we delivered just over 100 pounds of food to them.
Let’s see if we can get that up to 200 pounds for the month of August.
LHR is always in need of:
Dry beans, Whole grain pasta,  Rice,  Whole grain cereal, Canned meats (tuna or chicken) healthy cooking oil (ex. olive), Peanut butter,  Low sodium soups,  Fresh fruits, Vegetables, Granola Bars, Shelf Stable Milk, and Diapers

Almost half of all childhood deaths worldwide occur in children with malnutrition. Without the right nutrients, the brain cannot
develop properly, resulting in long-term effects on learning abilities. 720+ million people across the world don’t receive enough
nutrition to lead an active, healthy life, or provide for themselves and their families.
These facts are shocking. Overwhelming. But organizations like Rise Against Hunger are working towards achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Goal #2 of Zero Hunger. So how is Rise Against Hunger accomplishing this goal? Safety Nets – While long-term food security projects take root, communities facing hunger still need to meet their basic needs today. Safety net programs provide nourishment as well as education, skills training or health services that support the difficult journey out of poverty.
Crisis Relief – From droughts to floods, in conflict zones and transitioning political situations, food is often the most immediate
need. When everyday access to food, wages and market systems are destroyed in the wake of emergencies, Rise Against Hunger works through a network of in-country partners to address these needs.
Agriculture & Income-Generating Initiatives – Rise Against Hunger bolsters agricultural production and incomes through programs promoting improved agricultural methods, business skills and market access. With training and access to quality seeds and fertilizer, farmers can increase production and harvest a variety of nutritious crops. By supporting fish and livestock production, pathways to diversifying diets and improving nutritional outcomes are created. Through income generating activities Rise Against Hunger helps individuals increase their earning potential and consistent
access to food.
The St. Andrew Mission Committee has made this year’s mission focus hunger and food insecurity. As one of our projects, we are
partnering with Rise Against Hunger for a packing event – and we need your help to package 10,000 meals. This is a fantastic (and fun!) family event with children welcome. Donations are also welcomed to help offset St. Andrew’s cost of meal supplies.
Please indicate “Rise Against Hunger” on your memo line.
